Station planning

I'm starting to get an order together for my radio station. The big purchase of course is the radio. I'm looking for a do-it-all style radio that doesn't cost a small fortune. I think I've decided on the ICOM IC-7000. It is all bands from the basement up through 70cm except 1.25 cm. It's all modes as well except for some of the newer digital modes like D-STAR and P25. (I already have a HT that does D-STAR so I have that covered)The next big decision is the antenna system. There's no good single antenna that does it all. I'm looking for at least two antennas to cover the range. I think I'm going to go with the GAP Titan DX that'll cover most of what I'm looking to do. It handles a slice of 80m and all of the rest of the bands up to 10m. Reports say it handles a slice of 6m as well. It would be really nice to have something that would do some of the higher bands as well though (especially since the radio does). Another bonus of using this antenna is that I don't have to get an antenna tuner since it resonates on all the bands! As for mounting I think I'll just drag some cable out to the back yard and hide the antenna in the trees out back. The instructions say for an un-guyed installation you need a lump of concrete. I don't have a problem with guy wires so I think I'm just going to pound in a length of pipe and call it a day. It'll also elevate the antenna quite a bit from the ground so people wouldn't be as tempted to screw around with it.For the higher bands it would be nice to strap a 6m/2m/70cm to the chimney. The Diamond V2000A fits the bill nicely.Between it all I'll need a mess of coax, but that's OK. Since I'm not going to be running a high VSWR I don't need super expensive cable I guess. There's not a lot of attenuation on the lower bands and on the high bands I'll have a short run anyway. I might go for the gusto and get some LMR-400 anyway though. Depends on how the side work is going.  :-)The thing that's been holding me back was the threat of moving to the Bay Area. At this point I think I have to stop putting my life on hold waiting for the right time to move and just get on with things. If I have to pull up the antenna and box it up and re-set it up later it's not like the world is going to end. Let's just get on with things now and let the cards fall as the may.In any case I think I'll probably order something up over the weekend.
