W8DFL QSL Cards - 7/18/2011

I think we've reached a milestone: we're down to the US cards finally. When Bill sorted them initially I think these got moved to the end since they outnumber everything else.Yes, but that's the thing with hobbies. Hobbies are by definition a way of getting rid of extra cash.Of course the message "Sure FB QSO Vic" would mean something different. FB is radio slang for "Fine Business," a circuitous way of saying "OK." Now FB would only mean Facebook. The funny thing is that the radio operators got the whole TXTing thing down a good two generations before today's kids did."Nice to meet U Vick [sic]. FB UR TR-4 Will look fer U agn during lunch. 73's Pse QSL Tnx"Could be from any 16-year-old now. ;-)It's also neat looking at the evolution of zip codes. The one above is addressed to Parma, 29, Ohio. Parma, now, is 44129. I still have to do more research on this, but I'm guessing that 29 was the post office number in the Cleveland area. Eventually when zip codes were rolled out that became the last two digits in the code. It's like (typically) the last two digits of your address become the invisible last two digits of the ZIP+4+2 (Zip+6?) of the carrier route part of the zipcode barcode. More on that later...One last one just for the cool factor:My dad had a car that looks almost like that: a 1972 Camaro Z-28. This makes sense since these are related cars. It brings back memories. Now I need to go and find a picture of it. It was a beautiful metallic silver car with black striping. It was the first car I went over 100 miles per hour in (in the back seat of course) on the way out to see ET in a drive-in.:-)[smugmug url="http://photos.vec.com/hack/feed.mg?Type=gallery&Data=18103616_RGzthL&format=rss200" imagecount="100" start="1" num="100" thumbsize="Th" link="lightbox" captions="false" sort="false" window="true" smugmug="true" size="L"]
