More observations about Seattle

In an ongoing sage around moving to Seattle, here's another one: there are old things here.Sounds strange I know. When I say "old" I'm really talking about traditions and tenure of stuff. We went to a diner for breakfast that's been there for well over 50 years. Beth's Cafe has been there since 1954. Down the block is the Greenwood Parade that'll be happening around four blocks from us; this will be the 62nd running of that one. Another parade is inching up on a hundred years. And this is just scratching the surface. These aren't things that are merely around because one person is keeping them around; these are an artifact of the community as a whole. I think much of this is from the overall population density of this place -- you get a lot of people into a small space and you're bound to get enough people who step up that it makes it better for everyone. Once that happens, you get a nice flywheel effect.Just a happy Seattle observation.  :-)
