I had one of those moments of clarity last week after listening to some podcasts while out walking over lunch. Clarity, in many cases, is a realization of the obvious that was somehow ignored.

“If you want something, you have to ask for it.”

Most of us go through life not asking for things. Then being frustrated that we don’t get anything.

Mind you, some of us go around demanding everything, but that’s far from who I am so I can’t really comment on that. I’ll let that sleeping dog lie for this round.

A corollary to this that when you ask, ask for everything you want and be OK with getting some of it. Don’t just ask for a small part — the part you expect will be granted — ask for it all. 50% of 100% is still more than 100% of 25%.

It’s giving yourself permission to want something. It’s something that a lot of us have been conditioned to not. Maybe we should ask more often — and get more often — and bd less frustrated overall…
