I do a lot of reading about things. More reading than you would generally think someone should do. I listen to a lot of podcasts as well. Quite surprisingly a lot of that has to do with relationships.

The interesting thing is that while I seem to have a lot of knowledge about subjects — subjects that I rarely really need.

Lately I’ve had a chance start using some of that. It’s interesting. Sure, I have hunches — sometimes surprisingly accurate at times — but at the same time knowledge and practice are very different beasts.

The notion of “open, honest communication delivered with compassion” is very easy to write. It’s easy to read. Hell, it’s even easy to tell someone.

It’s a lot harder to live it.

In the past couple of weeks I’ve had the opportunity to exercise some of that. In many ways it feels good to not reinvent the wheel. It’s a lot easier to learn from other people’s mistakes.

I think I’m learning how to be a better me. Learning on the shoulders of others.
