Pictures from Lava Beds National Monument.

Honestly, even though I think the Three Sisters tried to kill me, I have to say I’m more pleased with this park than any other I really went to during my trip. A close second was Lassen National Park. Both were stunning in their own way.

In both cases though, the volcanism, both new and old, really served to give some perspective on time and the passage of time. It’s easy to feel really small and insignificant knowing that all this was relatively recent in terms of the geology of the Earth. Then to walk through the tube that was left by lava… and the fact they let you walk through them.

I wasn’t feeling 100% so I only went into the one that was lit and had signs and stuff. There’s plenty more though.

I really want to go back here.
