Radio Shack

I know that Radio Shack isn't immediately going out of business. Bankruptcy is a process of restructuring and getting back to a point where you can be successful again. It's also an admission that things are really not right.I remember going to Radio Shack with my grandfather and combing the aisles of components with him. I remember buying the Forrest M. Mims III books with him and starting to learn about how this stuff actually works. I still have those books. The last time I went to Radio Shack I was looking for some connectors when I was wiring up the suspension for my bike. (Yes, I think that sounds weird as well -- suspensions are mechanical things, and wiring is reserved for electronics. Yes... the shocks have electronics. :-O ) Before that it was also bike related as I needed to replace a potentiometer on my pressure sensor (electric manometer in this case) that got noisy. I was able to find that too.The problem was over time the aisle of components got reduced further and further. From an aisle to one side. Down to a few drawers. Now mostly gone altogether.Replaced with cell phones.RIP.I hope kids growing up now have the opportunity to get such joy and learning out of making and creating. Now it's not components as much as microcontrollers. But that's cool too.As long as you stay curious about the things in the world around you.
