At the locks today we spotted an interesting sight. What happens when you have a tug boat break down? You get another tug and strap them together and use that.

We chatted with the crew as the Kestrel, the good tug, and the Gyrfalcon were slowly raising to the level of Lake Union having come from the Sound. The Gyrfalcon was in for a new engine and drive and that would set the owners back 3.5 million. The Kestrel was getting a tank of fuel as well — 50,000 gallons of Diesel according to the deck hand. “It takes around four hours to pump it.”

You know that boats are expensive… but then you actually see it for real.

And then you pick your jaw off the ground.
