There’s the famous (ok, not overly famous, but famous enough to get a shout-out in Wikipedia) story about how the old game Battle Chess was made. I’m not going to copy-paste the wiki in here, so go read about the queen and duck.

I feel like I’m in the same spot right now with a project.

The problem is that people always are in the mood to make their mark on a project — that way they can say they’ve had a hand in how things work in the end. The issue at hand is that we’ve designed a system that we believe to be pretty darn optimal, so making random changes to it just upsets the apple cart.

We didn’t have a duck to take out… so now we’re fighting to prevent a duck from getting shoved in.

Of course this new duck might delay launching our project.
