Alonso

(If you don't like spoilers about racing, just stop reading...)

Watching a couple of races today was cool -- but sad.

It's always amazing to watch someone who seems to be supernaturally gifted with some talent do that thing. Like watching Lebron James play basketball, for instance. In this case, it's Fernando Alonso.

Fernando is in my opinion (and many other people's opinions as well) the best driver in the world today. Sure, he's won two driver's championships. Watching him today at Indy, driving an entirely different style of car and race, and still be in contention for a race win -- when it's his first race on an oval -- is breathtaking. The depth of ability is so far from what normal people, or even professional drivers, can even aspire to is amazing.

Then his Honda engine gave up with 21 laps to go.

Figures.
