Sharp, Octothorp, Hashtag

The musical sharp symbol, the octothorp, and the hashtag are all very different things. While they all seem to be written similarly, they are different.Ok, so the octothorp and the hashtag symbols are basically the same... the context does matter though. The sharp symbol is very different. It's narrower, the bottom doesn't touch the baseline, and it's kind of a vertical italic.

compared to ♯.

Way different. If you don't think so it's like saying that a "b" and "d" are the same -- they're just a circle and a line, right? The form of the glyph matters as well.Same with the "b" and the flat symbol "♭." Completely different! The thing with a hashtag is there's something directly after the "#" that's a single word that's not simply a number.Use them right!
