Ideology vs. Pragmatism

I was giving a good think about the problems that are going on in Seattle with how the city council is working, it appears to me at least, at ruining the city.I think the real problem with all of this is when ideology takes precedence over pragmatism. The present council is trying to solve messy real-world problems with catchy sound bites. Anything taken to an extreme has a high tendency to wind up being defective.You do things because it makes you look good to people that vote for you. However, looking good and doing the right thing oftentimes is very much different. Therein lies the problem. The world is a soft and squishy thing, the simple happy solution rarely has the effects that you want. But it makes your voters happy.We desperately need people who can lead the city and make the hard decisions to fix the real problems. We don't need the idiots we have now.
