Learning and barriers

I was having a think today about learning. So often you get to a point where you get to a point where what you're being told makes no sense to you, but the only way to explain it is beyond the point where you're at.

It's a bit of a circular argument in many ways. Like if you don't accept imaginary numbers for some reason, you'll never get to a point where you understand where and how they actually work.

Sure, some people -- Newton and Euler for example -- were able to start from point A and get to point B with no help. The vast majority of the rest of us simply don't do that. We have to learn things that we can't fully explain with the tools that we presently have to get to the point when we acquire the tools to explain them.

I just never thought about it in this way before.
