Amazon: Two Months In

Well, almost two months in. My two month anniversary is tomorrow, but that's a weekend so it doesn't really count, now does it.So far I have to say that I'm liking it.I've read stories about it being a burn-out machine, but from my vantage point I'm not seeing that.Sure, some days you work harder than others. And some days not as hard. It's been like that at every salaried job I've had.Hell, I remember the 400-hour month at Insurance.com née Comparison Market before we launched the product over a decade ago. I remember that month, but at the same time I can say that it was there that I had some of the most fun I've had working. No, I don't like the 100-week as much as the next guy, but I'll tell you I made some friends over the course of a decade.I'm hoping that Amazon will do the same thing for me here: Good people, and good friends.

Like any big company, Amazon is a complicated place with lots of tools. This isn't saying that "it sucks," but rather that it's more a fact of a place this big. This week I felt that I was really starting to understand what is going on -- at least in the microcosm that I'm working in. I'm starting to understand the toolset. I'm understanding the problem domain. I feel like I'm really starting to add value. It's a good feeling.
