Pride of workmanship

I sat down at the Yardhouse down in Portland and looked up...For some reason I always seem to investigate the infrastructure of the stuff around me...But what struck me was not the conduit above my head now, as neat as it was, but some conduit I saw at the MCI data center in Houston, TX when Insurance.com was installing some backup gear there. There was a run of conduit, five wide and three high if I recall correctly (so there was 15 tubes arranged in a grid), that was running between the tops of the racks and the ceiling. This bundle made a 90º turn. Unlike the picture above where each bend has a constant radius, the conduit in Houston all made the turn at the same time keeping the same distance between each pipe. There was five different radiuses so each of the bends started at the same point and finished at the same point. It was a thing of beauty and a joy forever.I looked at that and though that the electrician that fit that had a bit of pride in that. It didn't have to be that neat, but it was.How many people ever noticed this little touch? A handful, perhaps... but I'm sure the guy installing it looked at it and smiled at his handiwork.
