With culture comes a set of known protocols on how to act and how things work.Take, for instance, the cooler full of meats and such in the background. You go up with an empty plastic tub and use the provided tongs to pile some of the meats and veggies provided. You then pay by the pound. Here's the thing. I know how much it costs ($9.99 / pound if memory serves) and what types of stuff you can get, but once the tub of stuff goes up to the front I don't know what the next step is. Do they cook it for you? Do you take it home and cook it yourself? What about the noodles? Some of it could very well have been stated on the signs. Unfortunately, I don't read Chinese. This falls into what counts as the norm. As an American I know the protocol for dealing with bars and similar situations. Even though this is just a mile or so away in the University District, it's a foreign protocol for me.By the way, the noodles were fricking awesome! I had the beef thing - N4 - Spicy Tingly Beef Noodles.
