Disappearing Seattle

The viaduct is coming down... it was as old as the Space Needle since it was built for the same Worlds Fair for 1962.

And now it's coming down.

It's a good thing because it was a death trap ever since the 2001 Nisqually earthquake. Well, it likely was a death trap before that too, but we just didn't realize it.

At the same time the viaduct was one of those things that just helped to define Seattle and some of the views that you were able to get on there were unbeatable.

But here we are. The tunnel that Bertha dug is complete and has been open for a few weeks and the months-long process to tear it down has begun in force.
