Little bits of service

I stopped by the local Publix grocery store today to pick up some pork butts to smoke next week when my brother is visiting. I was struck by a simply bit of service -- the bagger offered to push my cart out for me to my bike.

I declined the service since I think someone else may be better served by it.

I half think he was trying to puzzle out how the heck I was going to fit my groceries on a motorcycle... but honestly I've seen plenty of folks pushing groceries out to peoples' cars for them.

It's a bit of a culture shock for me in a way.

Personal service like that isn't something I'm used to. But it's these little things around me that really let me know that it's a bit different out here.

And I think it's a good thing.
