Why Fight?

On our nightly walk we happened on an interesting topic."If you're not gay, why are you interested in gay rights?"I think it all boils down fairness.Just because I'm not a woman doesn't mean I don't care about women's rights.Just because I'm not black doesn't mean I don't care.By the same token I support GLBT rights. Why not support it?More importantly, if someone has rights, does that mean that anything has been taken from me? No. Rights are not a zero-sum game. The more rights we have the better off we all are.Now, you might not like gays for whatever reason. You might not approve for a whole list of reasons. All that means is that you have the right not be be gay -- or at least to try not be gay if that's how you are.

So, why write about this now?

Well, the election is coming soon here. There's an issue on the ballot for equal rights in terms of marriage here in Washington.

How does what someone else does affect you in any way? It doesn't.

Best thing a saw: "Don't like gay marriage? Don't get gay married."

It's all about being on the right side of history as well. There was just as much hubbub there about interracial marriage.

If you look back, the people against now look like idiots.

Look back at history. Think of the wars that have been fought. Think of the losers and what they stood for.
