Marriage Licenses: +1

Today, at 12:01 in the morning, the City of Seattle issued marriage licenses.This is interesting for a couple of reasons.These, notably, were given out at a minute past midnight. Normally most government offices are closed. The term "bankers' hours" applies to many government offices as well.They were, far more importantly, given to gay and lesbian couples looking to get married.The three-day waiting period to get married started today for a bunch of people. Sunday there will be a huge surge in weddings.The City of Seattle is throwing a mass wedding reception for all of them -- everyone's invited. To say this makes me happy to live in this city is understating what I really feel. The fact that the city government seems to be working for its citizens in all these ways makes me ecstatic.
