SJW - Video prep...
In the past couple of days, I was thinking hard about a video that I'll be making. The notion of "social justice warrior" is sticking in my craw and I've been trying to figure out exactly why.I think I've narrowed it down, finally.Basically, most of the folks that read this drivel agree that the idea of social justice is a good thing. It's awfully hard to argue that someone else deserves to have fewer rights than you do. This pulls in the golden rule and all that fun stuff. I can't even argue that we should be patient to get those rights for everyone -- those rights, if we believe they are rights, simply exist. There's no reason to delay. The problem, as I see it, is that the opening of the conversation, if you can even call it a conversation, starts off with dismissive insults.Calling someone that, for the moment, disagrees with you a bigoted asshole is not a way to curry any favors. You turn someone who may very well be your ally to a steeled opponent in an instant. Once the switch has been thrown they dig in and anything that you say is lost. You can be right six ways to Sunday, and it falls on deaf ears.Is that the hill you want to die on?
