Everyone always complains about the fact that Amazon messed up a lot of the traffic in Seattle, especially around South Lake Union. The thing that a lot of people don't know is that Amazon has been trying to fix things for as long as I've been there as well. For starters, Amazon gives everyone an unlimited bus card. The intent is that people should use transit to get to work when they can. They also sponsor (I think it's almost 100%) the Metro car-pooling vans that you can set up.Now, just this week, they launched a partnership with Scoop. And did it in a way that makes it free to use for Amazon employees. Will it be free forever? No clue. But it's still a lot cheaper than driving in yourself from one of the outlying burbs on the east side. What is it?It's like Uber and Lyft, but for only commuting. The service matches you up with people near your house that are going near where you work. You just pick them up and get on with it. It's taking the trip that you'd already be making anyway and making it less bad.As an added bonus, if you're the driver, I hear you'll get bumped up the wait list for a parking spot as well! It's still something that Amazon is doing for its employees and the greater community. :-)
