Essential

One of the things I’ve been thinking of as this whole virus nonsense keeps going on is the idea of an “essential worker.”

The thing that I realized is that almost all professions are essential. In the short term you can make due without many jobs, but as things wear on you come to realize that almost all of those are essential.

Beyond things like luxury goods and entertainment, just about everything that we do is essential. How many of the things that you use every day would you think of as essential. What about the people that made the parts of that thing. And the suppliers of the raw materials. And the energy to run is all. And the food to feed the people doing those things. And the clothing they all wear.

And on and on.

So many things really are essential.
