Simulated Flight

I've had the flying bug ever since I was a wee lad and started playing around with subLOGIC's sim on the Commodore 64.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCehXfpJVUAAhh... the good old days when all you had was four colors or slow updating goodness. "Goodness."I spent way too much time on that. I always wondered why I could never seem to land the planes very well. I never really thought about the fact that, oh, the screen lagged input by a good second or two. Yeah... frames per second or seconds per frame. I'm wondering which is a better way to describe the situation. Now, I'm on X-Plane 10 on an iMac with a 2GB video card pushing 2540x1440 graphics going 30 fps with detail out the wazoo. Oh, and I can land planes now. For the most part at least. I'm getting to the point where I can almost grok how to fly on instruments.I guess I've always had the urge to really learn to fly. Too bad it's so freakishly expensive. Even if you buy used kit, you're in for big bucks in storage and certifications for it. And overhauls. And certs for you. And ramp fees. And fuel. The list never ends. Oh, and a new one costs as much as the house. It would still be pretty damn cool. Maybe another lifetime... when I'm rich or something.

What I hear a common hobby is to fly somewhere new just to eat at the different location. I hear you simply can not buy a more expensive burger than to fly to get one! ;-)
