Bike: Fixed!
Yep. It's finally alive again! :-DThe parts and tool came in yesterday to work and I hauled them home. I didn't need the seal around the fuel pump it seems -- the old one worked. The extra screws are for when I pull off the tank and I get to fix the buggered screws. That's the pump... here's the tool:BWM sells this for a tad over $50. These are each machined out of a block of aluminum. My guess is this isn't a profit center for them. The dealers get a mark-up, but I doubt that the mothership is getting rich off these. One of the things that scared me as I was diving into this was the fuel level sensing strip. This gives a very clear view about why you shouldn't be scared. All this plug does is pass the wiring through into the gas tank. The cable from the strip just plugs in and you're good to go! Just make sure you don't drop it back into the tank -- then you'd have to fish it out of the gas. (No, I, thankfully didn't do that)Starting with a bike that looks, well, bike-like...It quickly devolved into this monstrosity:From here it was a bit of a struggle after I realized the fuel level was above that of the pump. As I wiggled the pump out I had a gusher of gas flowing out onto the ground. :-/ Thankfully I had a siphon to get some out. Unfortunately I found it after I inhaled a lung-full of raw gas vapors doing it the old fashioned way. Heh -- builds character. The old pump.Gas...New pump!:-DBefore you know it it's back to being a bike again!
