AI-proofing Interviews

It’s interesting to need to interview people for a developer position now. With AI being so pervasive, it’s hard to interview someone and know that the information you get is from the person themselves.

It’s a double-edged sword though, because the reality is that as a programmer we really rely on so much automation. From simple IDE symbol completion all the way up to vibe-coding. The last time I programmed with a pure text editor like Emacs was around 30 years ago.

So I think the best place to go now is design questions. There’s rarely a “right” answer, but you get to have a good discussion.
